"In the sharpening of faculties by an aśaikṣa ... like remedying the peak of existence": this re-explains the first line and the seven of the aśaikṣa in the second line. In the nine ānantarya-mārgas of the first five lineages in the sharpening of faculties by an aśaikṣa, the four anvaya-jñānas and the two dharma-jñānas of cessation and path are cultivated in the present according to applicability, because the ignorance obstructing the faculties severed by that sharpening of faculties by an aśaikṣa is directly triggered by the afflictions [abandoned] by cultivation belonging to the peak of existence. Just as in severing the afflictions [abandoned] by cultivation belonging to the peak of existence the four anvaya- and two dharma-[jñānas] are cultivated in the present according to applicability, so too the present sharpening of faculties arises like that. In the future they cultivate seven: [the knowledges of] the four truths, dharma, anvaya, and destruction (kṣaya). The ānantarya[-mārga] is [of the nature of] seeing and is not a cessation of seeking, so kṣaya-jñāna is not cultivated in the present. Because they belong to the same category, they cultivate kṣaya-jñāna in the future, but do not cultivate the conventional. Just as one does not cultivate the conventional when remedying the afflictions of the bhāvanā-mārga belonging to the peak of existence, the sharpening of faculties is also like this. Because it can sever obstacles, it does not cultivate [knowledge of] another's mind.
