"In all vimukti-mārgas ... is the same as sharpening the faculties": this explains that in the remaining paths [one cultivates] nine or all according to applicability. In all vimukti-mārgas of mixed cultivation by an aśaikṣa, only the four dharma- and anvaya-[jñānas] are cultivated in the present according to applicability. Because they are anāsrava, they do not cultivate the conventional in the present. Because they are not the vimukti-mārga of the supernatural knowledge of another's mind, they do not cultivate [the knowledge of] another's mind in the present. Because this vimukti-mārga is seeing and is not the cessation of seeking, the knowledges of destruction and non-arising are not cultivated in the present. In the prayoga-mārga, on top of the preceding six, the conventional is also added and cultivated in the present according to applicability, because the conventional is cultivated in the present as it serves as preparation. Because it is not unhurried, [the knowledge of] another's mind is not cultivated in the present. Because preparation is seeing and is not the cessation of seeking, the knowledges of destruction and non-arising are not cultivated in the present. As for what is cultivated in the future in the two paths above: nine for the dull and ten for the sharp. All viśeṣa-mārgas are the same as sharpening the faculties: for the dull, nine knowledges are cultivated in the present according to applicability, and nine also in the future; for the sharp, ten knowledges are cultivated in the present according to applicability, and ten also in the future.
