5.43

「又許此定至必不修行」者，凡、聖分別，唯異生得。以無想定感五百劫生死大果，空無所得。聖者厭離，如見深坑，不樂入故。要執無想異熟為真解脫涅槃，於無想定起能出離生死想而修此定。一切聖者不執有漏無想異熟為真解脫涅槃，不執有漏無想定為真出離聖道，故於此定必不修行。

"Furthermore, it is accepted that this concentration... definitely do not cultivate it," distinguishes ordinary beings from noble ones: it is obtained solely by ordinary beings. Because the non-conceptual concentration produces a great fruition of five hundred kalpas of birth and death, which is futile with nothing gained, noble ones revile it and turn away from it as if seeing a deep pit, taking no delight in entering it. It requires grasping the non-conceptual vipāka as true liberation and nirvāṇa, and generating the idea that the non-conceptual concentration can bring departure from birth and death, to cultivate this concentration. No noble ones grasp the sāsrava non-conceptual vipāka as true liberation and nirvāṇa, nor do they grasp the sāsrava non-conceptual concentration as the true noble path of departure; therefore, they definitely do not cultivate this concentration.
