Regarding the passage from "A wholesome mind of the form realm" up to "because of advancement": this clarifies that a form-realm wholesome [mind] may acquire three minds, acquired through two positions: first, through entering concentration; second, through separation from passion. That is to say, ordinary persons first subdue the desire realm, enter the threshold concentration, and acquire a form-realm wholesome mind; furthermore, because of separation from passion for the desire realm, at the ninth path of liberation they acquire the fundamental concentration and acquire the two fruition-of-mastery minds of desire and form [realms]. These two positions—going from desire to form, and going from preparatory to fundamental—are both termed "advancement." The reason this is not called acquiring a trainee mind is that, when the worldly supreme dharma is in the present, one has not yet accomplished the trainee mind; and when the patience with the dharma of suffering arrives in the present, it is no longer a form-realm wholesome mind manifesting; therefore, with a form-realm wholesome mind one does not acquire the trainee mind. From this it is known that the word "acquire" here indicates possession.
