"From craving, which delights in feeling, arises clinging to desires and so on": from here down, this identifies the substantial nature of the limb of clinging. Within this, there are two parts: first, a general indication; second, an individual explanation. This is the general indication. Following the craving that delights in the preceding feelings of pleasure and equanimity, the four clingings—such as clinging to desires—subsequently arise. In the Sautrāntika, the four clingings have desire (rāga) as their substantial nature, the same as in the Mahāyāna. According to the Sarvāstivāda, they have the hundred and eight defilements as their substantial nature.
