10.26

論「若謂此中就差別說」，牒外救也。外救一切煩惱總名無明，別名為貪、嗔、慢等。經說貪染心不說無明能染心者，說差別名，不說總也。

The treatise says: "If it is said that here it is spoken of in terms of differences." This cites the opponent's defense. The opponent defends that all afflictions are collectively named ignorance, while individually named attachment, anger, conceit, and so on. When the sūtra speaks of attachment tainting the mind without stating that ignorance can taint the mind, it speaks using the differentiated name, not the collective name.
