13.87

論「若爾何故至清淨鮮白」，經部難也。若謂正在定時具有八支，何為經說「八中五支修習圓滿，正命等三先時已得」，故知即是定前語等。

On the treatise's statement, "If so, why ... pure and radiant?": the Sautrāntika objects. If you maintain that while directly in meditative absorption all eight factors are present, why does the discourse state: "Among the eight, five factors are cultivated to perfection, while the three, namely right livelihood and so forth, have already been attained previously"? Thus one knows that these are precisely the speech and so on prior to meditative absorption.
