21.17

論「若纏唯八至亦具兩義故」，難也。若纏有八，唯慳、嫉具二復立為結，義即無違。許纏有十，忿、覆具二而不入結，慳、嫉具二因何入結？故釋非理。

The Śāstra says: "If the entanglements were only eight, up to 'they also possess both meanings'"—this is an objection. If the entanglements were eight, and only avarice and jealousy possessed both and were additionally established as fetters, the meaning would not be contradictory. But if one admits that there are ten entanglements, anger and concealment possess both yet do not enter the fetters; for what reason would avarice and jealousy possess both and enter the fetters? Therefore, the explanation is unreasonable.
