21.71

論「憍喜樂相應至與喜相應」，釋憍通三界也。歡行轉故，不與憂根相應。唯意地故，下地不與樂根相應。通上地故，至第三禪與樂相應。

On the passage in the treatise, "Arrogance is associated with mental and physical pleasure ... is associated with mental pleasure": this explains that arrogance pertains to the three realms. Because it operates through joyful activity, it is not associated with the faculty of sorrow. Because it belongs only to the mental level, in the lower stages it is not associated with the faculty of physical pleasure. Because it pertains to the upper stages, up to the third dhyāna it is associated with physical pleasure.
