On the Śāstra's statement: "The factors conducive to liberation ... factors conducive to liberation": this explains their intrinsic nature. Because they belong to the desire realm, they are not brought about by cultivation (*bhāvanāmayī*). Yet because physical and vocal actions are gathered by thought and aspiration, they can also be named as conducive to liberation. The superior is exclusively mental karma, but bodily and vocal are additionally included; therefore the three karmas constitute their intrinsic nature. Down to giving even a minor portion of a single meal or observing a single precept: as long as one deeply delights in nirvāṇa and is sustained by the power of vows, it is called planting the roots of goodness conducive to liberation.
