論「解脫勝進如何名道」，問也。加行、無間趣向涅槃可名為道。解脫已至、勝進已過，如何名道？論有三釋。第一云：與加行等道類同故，是道轉上品故。

On the Śāstra's "How are liberation and excellence named 'paths'?": this is a question. Preliminary application and the uninterrupted [path] head toward nirvāṇa and can be called paths. Liberation is already attained, and excellence is already past; how can they be named paths? The treatise has three explanations. The first says: because they are of the same type as preliminary application and other paths, and because they are higher grades of the path's operation.
