論「隨依何地至七地俗智」，述修地通局。准此上地亦修下有漏。《婆沙》三十六云「問：頗有二聖者同生一地，於現觀邊世俗智，一成就、一不成就耶？答：有。謂一依初靜慮入正性離生，一依第二靜慮入正性離生。彼命終俱生第二靜慮，依初靜慮者不成就此智，以越地捨故；依第二靜慮者成就此智，生自地不捨故。頗有二阿羅漢同在一地，於現觀邊俗智，一成就、一不成就耶？答：有。謂彼先時，一依初定入見道，一依第二定入見道。彼命終俱生第二靜慮，住中有中得阿羅果，依初定者不成就，此越地捨故。依第二定者成就此智，生自地不捨故（已上論文）。」

On the Śāstra's 'According to whichever stage it relies on... conventional knowledge of the seven stages': this recounts the scope and limitation of the stages of cultivation. According to this, upper stages also cultivate lower contaminated [phenomena]. The Vibhāṣā, fascicle 36, states: 'Question: Can there be two noble ones born into the same stage, where with respect to conventional knowledge on the verge of abhisamaya, one possesses it and one does not possess it? Answer: Yes. That is, one enters the realization of certainty based on the first dhyāna, and one enters the realization of certainty based on the second dhyāna. When they die, both are born into the second dhyāna: the one who relied on the first dhyāna does not possess this knowledge, because he relinquished it by transcending the stage; the one who relied on the second dhyāna possesses this knowledge, because being born in his own stage, he does not relinquish it. Can there be two arhats in the same stage, where with respect to conventional knowledge on the verge of abhisamaya, one possesses it and one does not possess it? Answer: Yes. That is, previously, one entered the path of seeing based on the first dhyāna, and one entered the path of seeing based on the second dhyāna. When they die, both are born into the second dhyāna, and while abiding in the intermediate existence they attain the fruit of arhatship: the one who relied on the first dhyāna does not possess it, because he relinquished it by transcending the stage; the one who relied on the second dhyāna possesses this knowledge, because being born in his own stage, he does not relinquish it.'
