論「從染等至至生次下淨」，述染生也。染唯生自地染及自地淨，并生次下地淨。欲界通生得，上地唯加行。

The passage of the śāstra from 'From the defiled meditative attainment...' down to '...gives rise to the pure of the stage immediately below' explains what arises from the defiled. The defiled gives rise only to the defiled of its own stage and the pure of its own stage, plus the pure of the stage immediately below it. In the desire realm, it applies to that acquired by birth; in the upper stages, it is solely through application.
