論「若爾至及自境界」,犢子部引經難也。以經說五根境各別故,不許一我兼五根取。六生喻經說六根境有別故,應意不能取五根境。經以六種眾生喻於六識,名六生喻經。廣如經說。
The treatise says: "If that is so... and their own domains." The Vātsīputrīyas cite a sūtra to raise an objection. Because the sūtra states that the domains of the five faculties are distinct, it is not admitted that a single self is grasped across the five faculties. Since the *Ṣaḍjīva-sūtra* (Sūtra on the Simile of the Six Animals) states that the domains of the six faculties are distinct, it would follow that the mind cannot grasp the domains of the five faculties. The sūtra uses six kinds of living beings as a simile for the six consciousnesses, hence it is named the *Ṣaḍjīva-sūtra*. It is detailed as stated in the sūtra.
