30.165

論「與白等覺至但緣諸蘊」，第二答也。如世間言我白乃至肥我，現見世間緣白等覺，與計我執同處而生。如世間言我白、黑等，故知即白等境，是我執境。故知緣我，但緣諸蘊不緣我也。

On the Śāstra's statement: "Together with cognitions of white and so forth [...] merely takes the aggregates as object": This is the second answer. As when worldly people say "I am white" up to "fat me," one presently sees in the world that the cognition taking white and so forth as object arises in the same locus as the grasping after a self. As worldly people say "I am white, black," and so forth, one therefore knows that the object of white and so forth is the object of the grasping after a self. Hence we know that what takes the self as object merely takes the aggregates as object and does not take a self as object.
