The Śāstra says: "What is censured and rejected by good persons […] because it can produce fear." This explains the second, the characteristic of lack of modesty (anapatrāpya). "What is censured and rejected by good persons is called sin" identifies the entity of sin. That is, unwholesome dharmas are the objects of lack of modesty. "Not seeing fear in this sin" clarifies the mode of activity of lack of modesty. "Here, the word 'fear' indicates the undesirable fruit, because it can produce fear" explains the designation 'fear'. This word 'fear' is the cause taking the name of the effect, because the unwholesome fruit can generate fear, and is thus called fear. That is, lack of modesty does not see the evil fruit, which is called not seeing fear. Evil fruits are twofold: first, present fruits, such as ridicule, censure, punishment, and the like; second, maturation fruits, such as the three evil destinies and the like.
