[On the Śāstra's statement:] "If in bodily deportment and arts and crafts [the mind has been extremely well practiced, its possession is also granted to be such]," this clarifies that when bodily deportment and arts and crafts are extremely well practiced repeatedly, it is also granted that they have prior, subsequent, and simultaneous possession. This speaks of mind and does not speak of form. Defiled-neutral form would have neither prior nor subsequent possession, so how much less non-defiled-neutral form? The Vibhāṣā, fascicle 126, states: "As for the bases of arts and crafts, they take the five bases of form, sound, odor, taste, and tangibles as their essential nature. As for that which gives rise to the bases of arts and crafts, it takes the two bases of mind and mental phenomena that can give rise to them as its essential nature." According to the Vibhāṣā, fascicle 157, in explaining the four aggregates of bodily deportment and arts and crafts in the desire realm, it says that for one who is well practiced, there is possession in the three time periods; in explaining bodily deportment in the form realm, there is no distinction. It further says: "For all defiled-neutral and non-defiled-neutral [states], as well as the four aggregates of bodily deportment and retribution, their time periods of possession are not intermingled; according to whatever time period [the state] is in, there is only possession of that time period." According to this, one knows that the two neutral minds in the form realm have neither prior nor subsequent possession. The Vijñānakāya states: "Possessing a desire-realm wholesome mind or unwholesome mind, both are said to definitively possess a desire-realm non-defiled-neutral mind." According to this text, it is definite that there is a non-defiled-neutral mind with possession in the three time periods.
