6.221

論「所以者何」，此大眾部徵也。既已起隨眠，生種滅位名為擇滅，故知未滅無也。所以得說非擇為先方有擇滅。

[When] the treatise [states]: "Why is that?" this is the Mahāsāṃghika's inquiry: "Since the state where the latent defilements that have already arisen and their seeds of rebirth are extinguished is termed cessation through deliberation, one therefore knows that prior to cessation it does not exist. Why, then, can it be said that it is not that deliberation comes first and only then is there cessation through deliberation?"
