7.38

論「第二句者至生住異滅」，此是心無間，非心等無間緣生也，四相不從無間緣生故。初剎那定及心位四相與心無間隔故，是心無間，非心等無間也。

On the Śāstra's statement: "As for the second alternative … arising, abiding, decay, and cessation": this is immediate to the mind, but not born from the mind as an equal-and-immediate condition, because the four characteristics [of conditioned existence] are not born from an equal-and-immediate condition. Because the initial kṣaṇa of absorption and the four characteristics in the state of mind have no interval separating them from the mind, they are immediate to the mind, but not equal-and-immediate to the mind.
