7.37

論「應作四句至二定剎那」，答也。此是心等無間緣生，非心無間。出二定心，隔二定故。言「第二等」，等取第三位等，乃至百千剎那。此由隔初剎那等定故，非心無間也。

On the Śāstra's statement: "One should frame the four alternatives … the kṣaṇas of the two absorptions": this is the reply. This [first alternative] is born from a mind as an equal-and-immediate condition, but is not immediate to the mind. The mind emerging from the two absorptions is separated by the two absorptions. The word "second and so forth" includes the third state and so on, up to hundreds of thousands of kṣaṇas. Because these are separated by the first kṣaṇa of absorption and so forth, they are not immediate to the mind.
