The Śāstra states: "It is already made apparent that aging-and-death... up to 'what need is there for this statement?'" Having made apparent that aging-and-death has a result and ignorance has a cause, why would one need to establish further factors of conditioned arising? Therefore the sūtra says: 'Thus is the origination of this entire great mass of suffering.' The Nyāyānusāra says: 'The sūtra says "Thus is the origination of this entire great mass of suffering"; this has the meaning of the prior and posterior limits mutually illuminating each other. Therefore, there is no fault of aging-and-death and ignorance having no result and no cause, or of having an end and a beginning. Here, the meaning of cause and effect is definitively and comprehensively subsumed, without the fault of an infinite regress from establishing further factors.'
