"Because there is no appropriation and because of contradiction" explains the above meaning of absence of growth following [an object]. In unconditioned phenomena and higher realms' objects, there is no appropriation as one's own by the view of individuality or craving; this is called "no appropriation." Because there is no appropriation, there is no growth following [them as] an object. Just as when a garment is moist, dust adheres to it—the garment represents phenomena, moisture represents craving, and the adhering dust represents the growth of the defilements following [it]. "Because of contradiction": furthermore, unconditioned dharmas and the objects of higher spheres are in contradiction with these defilements. Although they are taken as objects by the defilements, because they are contradictory, there is no growth following [them]. Just as upon a burning stone the foot does not stay—the burning stone represents unconditioned phenomena and higher realms' objects, and not staying represents the absence of growth following [them].
