"Relying on the body in the desire realm, nine": the gate of relying on bodies. These four—heat and the rest—arise only relying on the bodies of humans and devas of the desire realm, excluding Uttarakuru: the three continents of the human destiny and the six desire heavens. Arising in these nine bodily states, they rely only on desire because [those beings] can feel revulsion toward suffering. The first three roots of goodness initially arise in the three continents, and upon subsequent birth into the six heavens, they may also continue to manifest. The fourth root of goodness also initially arises in the heavens; that is, because the fourth wholesome [root] is only a single moment, it can initially arise in both human and deva destinies.
