'Dhyāna, faculties, inclinations, and realms have nine' refers to these four powers: 'Dhyāna' refers to the third, the knowledge-power of dhyānas, liberations (the eight liberations), concentrations (the three samādhis), and attainments (the eight attainments). 'Faculties' refers to the fourth, the knowledge-power of the superior and inferior faculties, because it is able to know that the five faculties—faith and so forth—of sentient beings have superior and inferior [degrees]. 'Inclinations' refers to the fifth, the knowledge-power of various inclinations, because it is able to know the diverse pleasures and superior inclinations of sentient beings. 'Realms' refers to the sixth, the knowledge-power of various realms, because it is able to know the diverse natures of sentient beings. These four powers have nine knowledges as their nature, excluding only the knowledge of cessation, because dhyānas and so forth are not the truth of cessation.
