Sixth, as for the proof from the eight factors of the path: if there were no avijñapti, there should be no eight factors of the path. For among the eight factors of the path, right speech, right action, and right livelihood—these three are avijñapti. Therefore the śāstra states: "Because when in meditative absorption (samādhi) there is no speech and so forth (Explanation: when in samādhi one cannot speak, so there is no [manifest] right speech; the body does not move to bow to the Buddha and so forth, so there is no right action; one does not beg for food and so forth, so there is no right livelihood. Since the three such as right speech are spoken of within samādhi, it is because within samādhi there are the three avijñapti forms of right speech and so forth. After emerging from samādhi, one is able to give rise to the three right ones and not give rise to the three wrong ones; hence right speech and so forth are spoken of within samādhi. This is naming the cause after the result: the cause is the avijñapti-rūpa, and the result is right speech and so forth)."
