"The rest [arise] from five and give rise to seven": "the rest" refers to the unimpeded neutral [mind] of the desire realm. Aside from minds such as the wholesome, this neutral mind is named "the rest"; it arises from five minds and can give rise to seven minds. That it arises from five means the four of its own realm and the wholesome of the form realm, because the desire-realm unimpeded [mind that is] the fruit of supernormal power arises from wholesome concentration of the form realm. That it can give rise to seven minds means the four of its own realm, two of the form realm, and one of the formless realm, thus making seven. The two minds of the form realm are: first, giving rise to its wholesome [mind], meaning that the unimpeded [mind that is] the fruit of supernormal power in turn gives rise to that concentration, because the mind of the fruit of supernormal power only alternates with the mind of concentration; second, giving rise to its defiled [mind], meaning that at the time of death in an indeterminate state of maturation or of deportment, it gives rise to that defiled mind, which is the state of reconnection. The one mind of the formless realm means that at death in a neutral mind of the desire realm, in terms of the state of reconnection, it gives rise to a defiled mind of the formless realm.
