"Due to grasping there is becoming": this is the tenth, the branch of becoming (bhava). This means that being able to have a future fruit is named "becoming". Furthermore, because it can cause the three realms of existence (the three bhavas) in future lives to continue in succession, it is named "becoming". That is, it takes its name from the fruit. The Vibhāṣā states: "When seeking, one gives rise to the three kinds of karma; this is named becoming." As for "If the grasper does not grasp, then they are liberated and there is no becoming": the meaning here explains that if the grasper does not grasp, they are immediately liberated, and there is no longer the branch of becoming.
