Regarding "visible and resistant": the old sūtras and treatises called it "capable of being seen"; based on the Sanskrit text, it is called "visible." Based on the Nyāyānusāra, there are three explanations in all: it says it is due to two meanings. First, this matter definitely occurs together with seeing, hence it is called visible; because matter arises together with the eye, as if having a companion. Second, this matter can be demonstrated, hence it is called visible; it can be shown to be here or there specifically, as having an object. Some say: this matter, in contemplation and so forth, has an image that can appear, hence it is called visible; it can be demonstrated to be like that, and this is also so. There are three kinds of resistance; this is physical resistance.
