基師云：地者，如所詮總法顯能詮總字，以義為教依，或約初標總名與後所釋，為所依故名地。
Master Ji says: "Earth (stage)" refers to the general expressed dharma manifesting the general expressing characters, taking the meaning as the basis for teaching; or it is called "earth (stage)" because the initial general designation serves as the basis for what is explained later.
