Regarding the shared and unshared virtues, there are generally two approaches: First, based on bodily maturation, virtues perfected exclusively in the Buddha's body that cannot be attained by the two vehicles are called 'unshared', such as the thirty-two marks and eighty minor characteristics mentioned herein. If they are shared and accomplished in common with the two vehicles, they are described as 'shared', such as non-contention, knowledge born of aspiration, and unimpeded understanding mentioned herein. Second, based on teachings, if the teachings of both the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna jointly describe the Buddha's virtues, they are called shared virtues, meaning the thirty-two marks, eighty minor characteristics, and so forth. If the virtues of the Buddhas are spoken of only in the Mahāyāna and not in the Hīnayāna, they are called unshared, such as the twenty virtues, purest wisdom, and so on in the Saṃgraha and other texts. Furthermore, according to the Chapter on Virtues in the Anuttarāśraya-sūtra, the Tathāgata's one hundred and eighty unshared dharmas are clarified, as explained in detail there.
