In the precepts of benefiting sentient beings, according to the old treatise, the beginning is divided into two—namely, the various undertakings and attending to the sick, etc., are opened into two. Now this treatise, because both are equally supportive companions, combines them into one; and the fourth and fifth sections of this treatise are combined there into the fifth. Hence there is this difference of dividing and combining, while the number eleven remains the same; that [text] contains specific words such as 'first', 'second', etc., while this treatise has the word 'again'. The ancient scholars interpreted it on the basis of that text, saying: 'Among the eleven, the first two are comradeship; the next one is affectionate speech; the next four are giving; the last four are beneficial conduct. Among the previous instances of comradeship, being a companion in beneficial and joyful tasks, and being a companion in sharing illnesses, etc., are common in joint undertakings.'
