第四、舉深尋淺次第，如維摩經法供養品說：第一、依義，義是二空所顯真如；第二、依智，智是證智，依理方起故次辨；第三、依了義經，經是義詮，前所辯義由詮故顯故次辨之；第四、依法，法謂地前行法，依於行法修習方得證理之智。

Fourth, the sequence of presenting the deep to trace the shallow, as the 'Dharma Offering' chapter of the Vimalakīrti Sūtra says: First, relying on the meaning—the meaning is tathatā revealed by the two kinds of emptiness. Second, relying on gnosis—gnosis is the gnosis of realization; because it only arises based on principle, it is explained next. Third, relying on definitive sūtras—sūtras are that which express the meaning; because the meaning explained previously is manifested by that which expresses it, it is explained next. Fourth, relying on the Dharma—the Dharma refers to the dharmas of practice prior to the stages; it is by cultivating and practicing relying on these dharmas of practice that one obtains the gnosis that realizes the principle.
