In explaining non-self, regarding "Completely knowing the nature of the two kinds of non-self of all phenomena": The old translation says: "Regarding all phenomena, conditioned and unconditioned, there is no self, 'I', or 'mine'; truly knowing the non-self of sentient beings and the non-self of phenomena." The traditional explanation states: "No self" refers to the non-self of persons, and " 'I' and 'mine' " refers to the non-self of phenomena. Now it is not so. The words "neither being an existent phenomenon nor being an entity possessed of phenomena" refute the mistaken imputation of a self as either identical with or distinct from the aggregates.
