Ji states: "Judged by appearance, it is something anyone can experience, so it is unexceptional; if judged by intention, not declining this matter is termed an exceptional dharma. Furthermore, viewed in comparison to one's own kind, it is unexceptional, but viewed in comparison to the two vehicles, it is extremely exceptional. 'Silent and without taste' means being silent and without speech. This silence is in truth a delightful taste, yet for the sake of sentient beings, one speaks the true Dharma. Moreover, personally entering nirvāṇa—this silence is in truth a delightful taste, yet for the sake of sentient beings, one speaks the true Dharma."
