Regarding the passage on the ten kinds of bodhisattvas, where it states, "When such a bodhisattva has diligently practiced and trained," this concludes the initial text of the "Support of Dharmas Leading to Awakening," which is the third text on being capable of practicing and training. The following text says: "Among the ten kinds of bodhisattvas, those who are capable of correctly practicing and training in the bodhisattva's trainings, above this there are none capable of correctly practicing and training"; this concludes the preceding third text on being capable of correctly practicing and training. Hence one knows that the three analytical textual divisions are not identical. For instance, in the third, the "Support of Training," the initial division of the first two has introductory text but no concluding summary, whereas this "capable of correctly practicing and training" lacks an introductory text but has a concluding summary; hence one knows that by displaying analogous categories, it is briefly stated without explaining that the division has three sections. As for "1. abiding in the gotra," this refers to before the ten faiths; "2. having entered," this refers to from the ten faiths onward up to the Cloud of Dharma; "3. not yet having purified the intention," this is before the bhūmis; "4. having purified the intention," this is entering the first bhūmi; "5. not yet accomplished," this is the ninth bhūmi and below; "6. accomplished," this is the tenth bhūmi; "7. not having fallen into determination," this is not yet entering the eighth and ninth bhūmis, as the following text states: "those who have not attained entry into the stage of determination" means not having entered the eighth bhūmi, and "those who have not entered the stage of determined practice" means not having entered the ninth bhūmi; "8. having fallen into determination," this is having already attained entry; "9. bound to one birth"; "10. abiding in the final existence." Ji says: There are three categories of bodhisattvas: first, bound to one birth, such as Maitreya and others; having previously dwelt among humans, looking forward to the future status of buddhahood, they ought to have four births: the basic existence of human and deva, and two intermediate existences, as with seven births and the like, is called one great birth; if abiding in heaven, half a birth is called one each of basic existence.
