舊攝論云：或說三祇或說七僧祇或說三十三，今定明三大劫僧祇即得成佛不過不減，此處論文言但經三無數大劫不過此量，瓔珞經就第十地中義分無數小劫，於中修習象王步等猶是三祇數內而無有過。

The older translation of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha says: 'Some say three asaṃkhyeyas, some say seven asaṃkhyeyas, and some say thirty-three.' Here it definitively clarifies that by three great kalpa-asaṃkhyeyas one attains Buddhahood, neither exceeding nor falling short. The treatise text here states that one merely passes through three immeasurable great kalpas and does not exceed this measure. The Yingluo jing, with respect to the tenth bhūmi, conceptually distinguishes immeasurable minor kalpas within which one cultivates the stride of the elephant king, etc.; these are still within the count of the three asaṃkhyeyas without any excess.
