Ji says: The three meanings of transformation and so forth correspond below to the five meanings of generation, support, establishing, maintenance, and nourishment. Here transformation includes three kinds: generative cause, supportive cause, and nourishing cause. That is, the preceding great elements are the generative cause; following karma afterwards is the supportive cause; the power of superior concentration is understood to be a part of the nourishing cause. As for the rest, 'establishing' is the establishing cause, and 'sustaining' is the maintenance cause; in the third fascicle of the Maulī Bhūmiḥ there is an even more extensive explanation of the five causes and the four interpretations of the meaning of derived from the elements.
