In the fourth [section], explaining the mutual subsumption of the four sufferings and the eight aspects of practice: Jing states that the eight are stated to be eight aspects of practice, and they are mutually subsumed with the four listed here. "The first aspect of practice and the first suffering mutually subsume each other": the suffering of birth, the first among the eight sufferings, has no broader or narrower scope than the suffering of birth among the four, hence they mutually subsume each other. "Next, three aspects of practice are mutually subsumed with the second suffering": the three aspects of practice of old age, illness, and death are mutually subsumed with this suffering conditioned internally. "Next, three aspects of practice are mutually subsumed with the third suffering": the three aspects of practice of meeting the disliked, separation from the loved, and not getting what is sought are mutually subsumed with suffering conditioned externally. Finally, the aspect of practice of the five appropriated aggregates is mutually subsumed with this fourth, the suffering of coarseness. Tai states: The arising and ceasing of the eight sufferings are precisely called the eight aspects of practice.
