基云：此中初文云：異熟住時決定等云顯命根似唯總報，下云三種中，復有定故、愛不愛故，即知亦通別報。又如顯揚文云：異熟六處住時決定等，即亦兼總別報，乃不於第八識上而建立故。若不爾，如雋師云：如法爾種，雖言無始法爾六入殊勝，意唯取第六處，此亦如是，雖云六處意在第六處，即唯總報於第八上假立，眾同分等亦同此。

Ji says: Here the initial text says "maturation remains for a determinate duration, etc.," which appears to indicate that the life-faculty is solely general retribution. Below, among the three kinds, there are also "due to determinateness" and "due to pleasantness and unpleasantness," from which we know that it also applies to particular retribution. Moreover, as the text of the Prakaraṇāryavācā states: "the six āyatanas of maturation remain for a determinate duration, etc.," which also embraces both general and particular retribution, since it is not established on the eighth consciousness alone. If it were not so, then as Master Jun said: just as with natural seeds, although it is said that "from beginningless time the natural six sense-bases are superior," the intended meaning is solely the sixth base; here too it is like this: although it says "the six bases," the intention lies in the sixth base. That is, it is solely general retribution nominally established on the eighth consciousness, and generic similarity and the rest are also like this.
