第二釋色義，云種植增長義者，多據眼識所行色處而說。及變礙義者，此據有對礙色。故婆沙云：可變壞義定有對礙，是其色義。手等所觸壞義者，準據五根四塵除聲，方處差別種種相，即通十處。

Second, explaining the meaning of matter (rūpa): stating the meaning of planting and growing mostly relies on the material sense base that is the domain of eye consciousness. And the meaning of alteration and resistance relies on matter that has resistance. Hence the *Vibhāṣā* states: the meaning of being alterable and definitively resistant is the meaning of matter. The meaning of being damaged by touch of hands and so on relies on the five faculties and four dusts, excluding sound; because of distinctions of direction, place, and various characteristics, it applies to ten bases.
