The text below says: “Because the six are united into one,” by the immediate cessation of the six consciousnesses, they are made into one mind. “Twelve”: the text below says: “Because one becomes six,” meaning that the mind-element opens into the six consciousnesses, which are subsumed under the mind-element; this initially applies to conventional principles such as those of the Hīnayāna. If it is the Mahāyāna, it inherently has eighteen, considering the entities of the mind-elements to all be real existents. Now, according to the eleven consciousnesses in the Mahāyānasaṃgraha: the experiencing consciousness and the embodied consciousness are called the mind-element, which are the ālaya- and manas-consciousnesses; the embodiment consciousness is the five faculty elements; the consciousness to be experienced is the six sense-object elements; and the correctly experiencing consciousness is the six consciousness elements. Therefore, the eighteen elements are all real existents.
