於見聞等勝，於可於彼立見等者。何以故？若有根識定生，或有識而根不定，根闕不闕俱可得故，云根是勝立見者等，實義、唯於見等說見者等。

The faculties are superior in seeing, hearing, and so forth, so that 'seer' and so on can be established upon them. Why? If there is a faculty, consciousness definitely arises; whereas if there is consciousness, the faculty is not fixed, for consciousness can be found whether the faculty is deficient or non-deficient. Therefore it is said that the faculty is superior, establishing it as the seer and so forth. In the real sense, seeing and so forth are merely spoken of as 'the seer' and so forth.
