Regarding 'apart from seeing, hearing, and so forth, there is no separate seer, hearer, and so forth', Kuaiji says: The statement that 'because the self-nature of all dharmas arises from numerous conditions, ceases in an instant, and lacks agency' means: first, seeing does not occur because of spontaneous arising; second, seeing is obtained not because of permanence; and dharmas without agency refute the agency of the Vaiśeṣikas and others, and therefore they cannot truly see. The statement that 'or there is a continuum of consciousness, whereas whether the eye and other faculties are deficient or non-deficient can both be found' means that when the faculty seeds are damaged, they cannot generate active consciousness seeds; when undamaged, the consciousness seeds flow at all times, while the faculties may or may not be deficient. Thus one knows that if there are faculty seeds, they will definitely generate existing consciousness seeds, and to produce consciousness there naturally are consciousness seeds; yet faculty seeds do not necessarily generate faculties.
