命根，非有色非無色，非有色非無色為義者，有釋：命根非色非心，則以非色心為自根義，分位假故。又可以非色非心為他境義，非能緣故，景云：此命根是假法故，體非有色無色，亦不以色無色為境。

The life faculty neither has form nor lacks form, and takes neither having form nor lacking form as its object: some explain that since the life faculty is neither form nor mind, it takes neither form nor mind as the object of its own faculty, because it is nominal in state. It can also be said that it takes neither form nor mind as the object of another domain, because it is not capable of cognitive apprehension. Jing says: Because this life faculty is a nominal phenomenon, its substance is neither having form nor lacking form, nor does it take form or the formless as its cognitive object.
