16.543

基云：以修道惑障定事任運生故，但伏修惑，見道煩惱分別而生障於理故，不伏得定。伏修之中，唯與貪瞋隨順憍慢。今能伏之，與我見等隨順憍慢，即不能伏。如六十九云：我見等不伏，有文簡彼俱慢故。

Ji says: Because the afflictions of the path of cultivation obstruct the concrete states of absorption and arise spontaneously, one only suppresses the afflictions of cultivation; the afflictions of the path of seeing arise through discrimination and obstruct principle, so without suppressing them one can attain absorption. Within the suppression of cultivation, it is only the arrogance conforming with greed and ill will that one can now suppress; arrogance conforming with the view of self and so forth cannot be suppressed. As fascicle sixty-nine says: the view of self and so forth are not suppressed, there being a text that specifically excludes the arrogance concomitant with them.
