In the analogy, what is spoken of is like the four great elements: by the power of past fruits, the hardness, wetness, warmth, and motility of the four great elements are made to sovereignly culminate; apart from earth and so forth, no distinct qualities of hardness, wetness, and so forth are separately added. In this way, apart from volition there is no distinct killing and so forth: the seed of preparatory volition that generates the action arises on account of the other's suffering, and therefore the transformation of this seed from moment to moment freshly produces the non-informative matter of immoral conduct; being naturally brought forth by that power, it is called defiling adherence.
