Another explanation says: when prominent karma is still in the stage of an ordinary person or a *śaikṣa*, being oppressed by a slight retributive suffering, it is then called "already ripened," taking its name from the fruit; therefore it is said that it is because the arhat has attained the stage of *aśaikṣa* in this present life. If one has attained [the path] after the vajra-like path, one experiences nothing at all, because the seeds of retribution-fruits do not exist. In the body of an arhat, there being snake-bites and so forth—this is the retribution of [past unwholesome] generosity and the fruit of natural outflow, not the present ripening fruit; because [such ripening] is already exhausted from the attainment of the third fruit onward, it is called basis-transformation at the locus of completion.
