The Tripiṭaka Master explains: 'Separated non-separation' is spoken of only in reference to multiple subtle atoms from nominal subtle atoms upward. But where they cannot be physically divided, only then is it called 'mixed non-separation', in which two subtle atoms of different classes occupy the same location. Therefore, mixed non-separation must depend upon co-locational non-separation. Hypothetically, if there were one or two subtle atoms, they could exist separately; when multiple subtle atoms of different classes are in the same location, there is only a single subtle atom of its own class, so the co-locational does not depend on the mixed; if it is of its own class, or large and small of a single form, it is not mixed.
