Regarding the passage from "In the formless realm" downward, Jing says: For ordinary beings and non-Buddhists of the formless realm, their meditative wholesome and inherently acquired minds only take their own stage as object. If a bodhisattva at the initial generation of the resolve predominantly cultivates wisdom, he is named a vipaśyanā-bodhisattva. Furthermore, there are śrāvakas of extensive learning and great erudition who are called those of broad wisdom, encompassing those with training and those beyond training. When these [practitioners], having abandoned desire for the lower two realms, attain birth in the formless realm, their formless mental orientation is capable of taking as object all phenomena of the lower stages. This text clearly states that the wholesome [mind] of the formless realm takes as object all lower phenomena.
