Regarding 'all due to the time when [offenses] had not yet arisen': this refers to when the Tathāgata first appeared in the world, there was as yet no violation of precepts or violation of views. Later, Sudinna's son was the first to violate the full precepts, and Ariṭṭha was the first to violate views, claiming that desires do not obstruct the middle path. Herein, violating views is termed 'self-defilement' (*ziwan*).
